15 September 2025: Digital accessibility and sustainability consultancy, As It Should Be, has successfully completed its B Corp recertification, reaffirming the company's commitment to using business as a force for good.

The consultancy views the B Corp standard as providing a robust framework for positive learning and growth, supported by the B Corp community of businesses. Progressing through the recertification process in recent months offered an opportunity for the team to review its practices and determine where it can focus efforts for improvement in the coming years.

The company acknowledged expecting a lower score this year than when it originally certified in 2022, a nod to its commitment to transparency and good communication. While the consultancy made small improvements in some areas of impact and published its first impact report, it noted dropped points in two specific areas:

  • Supplier diversity: The company streamlined its suppliers, which meant working with fewer local and female-owned businesses than before.
  • Waste management: As a micro business, the company does not have documentation to evidence its waste disposal practices.

Managing Director Jon Gibbins explained how the drop in the company’s B Impact Score has informed their next steps and objectives for the next year:

“We’re a small, remote-first company, very much operating in the digital world. We work from home, coworking spaces, and cafés. We don’t have a large number of suppliers, and recent years have presented a challenging commercial environment, so we’ve had to cut costs and switch suppliers. We also don’t need commercial waste disposal contracts to recycle our electronic devices or batteries. This recertification has helped uncover these factors, and has prompted us to review our suppliers, and further improve the guidance we give to our workers.”

Mr Gibbins also highlighted the value of transparency in the recertification process:

“As a micro business, we are limited in the time and resources available for making improvements, but we’re committed to being transparent about our operations and making improvements. Being a B Corp means being held accountable and learning from it, and that’s a large part of the value for us.”
